Raising Confident Kids in Nigeria: How Amani Health’s Vision Board Workshop Builds Self-Esteem & Goal-Setting Skills
Children thrive when they are given the tools, space, and confidence to imagine a bright future. On September 6, 2024, Amani Health hosted its annual Vision Board Event for Kids & Teens a transformative experience that brought together over 90 families to help young people explore their goals, build emotional intelligence, and believe deeply that their dreams are valid.
Held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference & Exhibition Centre, the event welcomed children ages 7 to 17, including participants who joined virtually from outside Lagos. The goal was clear: to teach children how to dream big, set meaningful goals, and strengthen their emotional wellbeing.

A vision board for kids is a creative tool that helps children visually express their dreams, goals, strengths, and future aspirations.
Research shows that vision boards help children:
- Build confidence
- Improve goal-setting skills
- Strengthen emotional intelligence
- Stay motivated academically and socially
These are exactly the outcomes Amani Health focuses on. For today’s generation, surrounded by academic pressure, social media comparison, and low self-esteem challenges — teaching children how to visualise a positive future is essential.

Inside the 2024 Vision Board Event for Kids “Dream Big & Reach for the Stars”
The theme of the 2024 event was “Dream Big & Reach for the Stars 4.0,” designed to inspire children to imagine new possibilities and believe that their dreams are achievable.
During the Dream Board Activity, children:
- Selected images representing their future goals
- Identified personal strengths
- Created boards that reflected their dreams
- Practiced positive affirmations
- Learned how to set actionable goals
By the end of the workshop, each participant walked away with:
A colourful vision board, Renewed confidence, Emotional awareness, A clear sense of purpose
It was more than a fun activity; it was a powerful mental health and self-esteem building workshop for young people.
Why Vision Board Activities Help Children Build Confidence and Clarity
Many children today struggle with:
- Academic pressure
- Social media influence
- Self-doubt
- Peer comparison
- Fear of failure
Vision board activities give them permission to dream again.
According to the convener, Mrs. Ayodele Fasuyi:
“Our goal is to show children that, no matter the noise around them, their dreams remain valid and their future is bright.”
A standout moment was the story of Tunde Onakoya, founder of Chess in Slums Africa, whose journey from humble beginnings to global recognition reminded everyone that dreams become reality through belief, consistency, and courage.
Impact Stories from Parents Real Transformations at Home and School
Parents shared inspiring feedback about how the event changed their children.
One mother said:
“After last year’s edition, my son turned his wardrobe into a vision wall. This time, he already told me he’s putting his academics right at the top. This programme doesn’t just inspire — it changes lives.”
Another parent shared that her once-shy daughter now sets goals more boldly and regularly says, “My dreams are valid.”
Generous support from sponsors such as Indomie, SunTrust Bank, Rosabon Finance, Pasta n Grills, VDL Technologies, Markov Games AI, AYITI, and Fifi's cake Allure created a fun, memorable, and rewarding experience for every child.
